This past Friday I continued my journey documenting the progress of the London team in the Secret Wars Euro League. The battle took place against the Cardiff team on London’s home turf of The Book Club in East London, accompanied as always, by the sounds of Reeps One and Noisses.
The 3 man London team, comprised of Tony Riff, Alfa and Disco Teck, got off to a quick start, with Teck describing himself as “loudly confident” as the team mapped out their battle plans. As ever, the two pieces were jam packed with digs at the opposing team. Cardiff decided to take the political route in their piece ‘Maggie’s Farm’, while the London team chose to include all manor of Welsh imagery, including daffodils, sheep and Tom Jones.
While Teck’s ‘TJ’ character, inspired by the legendary Tom Jones, seemed to be a favourite for many, The crowd vote swung this round in the away team’s direction as they scored a 119 on the noise-ometer against London’s 117. A well deserved away victory for Cardiff puts them to the top of their group and means that, with 2 defeats in a row, team London are fighting to save their place in the competition.
The next round takes place in Cardiff on May 30th. The Secret Wars team are organising a coach trip to the event from London to gather support and make sure they can swing the crowd vote their way next time.
