Our 2nd mixtape is brought to you by one of Manchester’s finest producers; xxxy.

On meeting Rupert (aka xxxy) it was clear that he was more a musician than simply a producer, and it’s apparent when you listen to any of his own music. Pulling in influences from UK Garage, 2Step, House, UK Funky and Techno, he creates tracks with a deep soul with a production quality that is envied by many. This becomes more clear when you begin to look at the labels that he has released on including Mindset, Formant, Open Earz, Pollen and most recently Infrasonics.

We like to give our DJs complete control over their mixes, not requesting anything other than they mix what they enjoy, so it was a pleasant surprise when Rupert hit me up asking if it was cool to do a mix mainly at 130bpm. The Daily Street mixtapes are all about showcasing the kind of mixes that a DJ would play in their lounge for pleasure, without the pressure of a crowd. The mix that we received from xxxy is exactly this, but it would smack a crowd as well! Just under an hour of House/UK Funky/Garage stuff … it’s this movement in music that has blossomed out of the Dubstep scene and I still don’t really know what to call it. For now let’s label it ‘House’. Nice and vague.
