New Balance 580 ‘Flight Jacket’ Pack

For AW/10 New Balance have looked to the military flight jacket for inspiration for their 580.

Styled on the infamous B-3 bomber jacket and MA-1 flight jacket, this pack brings two very different colourways to the table that sit perfectly beside each other. First up is the B-3 bomber jacket, using dark Brown premium leather and heavy duty canvas to represent the iconic styling of the jacket. It’s all made more than clear when you see the faux sheep skin lining of the tongue. A seriously nice little detail. For the MA-1 flight jacket New Balance have used military Green premium leather and ripstop nylon with an Orange lining that makes that instantly sparks memories of the original jacket. The addition of a velcro ‘N’ on the outer side panels are a welcome extra, especially if you decide to rock the matching Orange ‘N’.

Both kicks come with a custom tongue tab and a nice little leather tab above that, which can be seen in more detail below. This is a Japanese release and shouldn’t have touched down in Europe at all … luckily for us, Foot Patrol is now back in the game and has copped the only pairs to hit Europe!

Head down to Foot Patrol swiftly if you want in!

I suppose a shoe can look like a flight jacket. Actually Balance has done a good job of bringing all the good things about a bomber jacket to a shoe. They look dependable, comfortable, made of natural materials, protective and military-colored, just as the original flight jackets did, and the finishes are amazing.
