Last night we attended the launch of the new print project by Dickies entitled ‘Love Your Work’, at the Maverik Showroom on East London’s Redchurch Street. I’d been looking forward to the getting my head into a copy of the book after seeing the huge list of contributors, ranging from SF streetwear kings Rebel 8 to our own fearless Fixed Gear London, so the launch, which presented the chance to step inside the pages was high on my to do list.
The upper floor was decorated with blown up pages from the book, which takes a look at individuals who not only share a love for Dickies clothing, but a passion and commitment to their individual fields of work. In an interesting flip on traditional gallery spaces, those in attendance were invited to tear the sheets from the wall to take away with them, revealing a fresh sheet underneath. The lower deck hosted some of the installations and photographic pieces that feature in the book, including a hand drawn sketch onto cloth by Mike Giant, and a real life look at the anatomy of a pair of Dickies selvedge denim jeans, complete with thread and rivets.
The book itself provides a number of interviews and articles which support the gallery pieces, along with tonnes more photography and a look at upcoming collaborations – a hugely impressive body of work and something I will treasure on my bookshelf for years to come. If you wish to take a look for yourself, Love Your Work remains open until the 25th September, more info here.
