Pro-Keds are as old school as they come. The year 1917 saw the release of a shoe called ‘Keds’, said to be one of the first ever sneakers created. In 1949, a new line of footwear was brought out under the brand name ‘PRO-Keds’, targeting athletes and particularly focusing on basketball players.
One of the first shoes in the line was the Pro-Keds ‘Royal’, first released in an all canvas upper, the sneaker was a hit with players such as Nate Archibald, LA’s Kareem Abdul Jabbar and even gained a NYC cult following being the original b-boy choice.
This release see’s the Royal get some perforated leather treatment, coming in the choice of either high or low. These are clean and simple, with the choice of black or white. The instantly recognizable red and navy stripes sit on the outsole and toebox, with a rubber Pro-Keds logo on the inside of the upper keeping the detail to a near minimal.
This is heritage basketball at it’s finest and no doubt will be a welcome addition to the collections of many sneaker fans.
