New Balance 576 Lake District ‘Inspired By’ Pack

New Balance are back with another ‘Inspired By’ pack after the success of their Pub Pack back in September last year. This pack once again works with the infamous 576, taking inspiration from the surrounding areas of the New Balance UK factory in the Lake District.

The 576 is most certainly one of New Balances best models. A classic runner from the ’80s, it’s a silhouette that is synonymous to the New Balance brand and has stood the test of time, still looking as fresh as ever even now. Taking 3 576’s and theming them around 3 different locations near their Flimby factory (St. Bees, Scafell Pike & Derwent Water), the New Balance team have created a very British heritage-centric pack that differs nicely from the Pub Pack. Each shoe has a map of it’s inspired location on the underside of the tongue amongst a whole collection of nice little details that tie into each story …

The St. Bees shoe takes inspiration from it’s beach surroundings, using rugged leather to reflect water on beach stones (works pretty well!), heavy canvas materials and rope style laces. This shoe definitely has a beach-esc calm to it thanks to the predominantly tan upper.

The Scafoll Pike shoe is inspired the mountain itself and the people that brave to climb it. Using earth-tones on the leather upper mixed with backpacking textiles and finished off nicely with hiking boot laces, this shoe instantly feels like it has British history within it.

Finally, the Derwent Water shoe, what is in my opinion the most vibrant shoe of the pack, inspired by the lake and it’s surroundings. This 576 once again comes with a leather upper, this time used to represent the deep blue water of the lake, whilst waxed sail cloth on the toe box contrasts nicely and helps the story along. Finished off with life vest detailings such as the white laces and popping yellow inner, I love how linked to sailing this shoe is.

Over-all, this pack is most certainly a success and I think there’s a colourway (and story) there for everyone. I’m hoping to see more and more of the Flimby ‘Inspired By’ packs, as the attention to detail in stories and material research is incredible. Keep up the good work New Balance Team UK!

These will be dropping in all good New Balance stockists this Friday (18th February) including End Clothing and Hanon.

Loving the concept…but I hate Union Jacks plastered over everything – the tongue looks fine but the heel tab is too much would prefer an NB or the name of the shoe model
