Surface To Air x asics Gel DS Trainer 14

French fashion house Surface To Air team up with asics to bring these super-fresh Gel DS Trainer 14’s as part of their “Friends & Family” project.

Apparently, the inspiration behind the design is lightning storms and Olympic swimming suits – an interesting mix, but who cares, it works. It fills me with joy to see an asics collaboration where they haven’t just gone for the usual Gel Lyte III, but reached for a more modern running design from asics, bringing it into the lifestyle realms. The use of materials is insanely nice, allowing the different textures of the perforated nubuck, plastic and neoprene do their work on a completely black upper. Usually the use of anything shiny on a sneaker such as patent leather or plastic does my head in, but on this shoe it’s beautiful.

A subtly speckled midsole on the inner-side makes this shoe so damn fresh, especially when you team it with the white collaborative branding on the tongue and mini logo on the toe. Finished off with 3M piping around the tongue and a chrome branded lace loop at the top of the shoe, I am in love.

As if the shoes weren’t good enough on their own, Surface To Air have also added a t-shirt, shoe bag and swim bag to the collaboration, making it an insanely nice collectors piece.

Head in to Foot Patrol to get your hands on this pack for £130 before it disappears into the realms of sneaker envy.
