Jamie XX – “Far Nearer” [Numbers]

Jamie XX makes his debut on Numbers, one of the finest labels around currently, bringing two unbelievably good tracks; “Far Nearer” and “Beat For”.

You might be surprised to hear this, but this is actually Jamie’s debut solo single – yep, up until now he has never released anything that has been 100% Jamie XX. Personally, that blows my mind. Fortunately for all of us, Jamie is not one of those artists that gets weaker when working on his own, quite the opposite. These two tracks are quite possibly my favourite pieces of music to come from the young producer, showcasing both his fantastic work with steel drums and his ability to make the most stripped-back, hollow tune sound full. The release gets even better when you find out that it has come out on Glaswegian record label Numbers – who are undoubtedly one of the leading labels out there at the moment, dropping music from the likes of Deadboy, Jessie Ware & SBTRKT, Roska & Untold, and Ill Blu to name a few.

To be honest, I could have just put a photo at the top of this post and the Soundcloud tracks below and let the music do all the talking. This is an insanely epic release and you should all go and buy it. It’s available on both digital and vinyl (in limited numbers) and hit stores yesterday, but you can buy it all from a dedicated website called farnearer.com

Which is your favourite track on the release? Personally, I’m a huge fan of the B side, “Beat For”. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
