Supra Skytop III

Missing-Image-fin

Supra have worked themselves in to one of the best and most popular skate brands around today and it’s releases like this, that get people talking and raising a few eyebrows, that help keep the status they have stay put.

Here we have the third instalment in the ‘Skytop’ line, which is also Chad Muska’s signature shoe. It’s a skate shoe that manages to balance and blend a variety of aesthetics, sneaker references and a modern skate look and feel. Supra aren’t new to referencing favoured classic footwear designs in their own work, their ‘Avenger’ had subtle hints to a variety of certain holy grails, and once again they’ve managed to blend and patchwork many different design aspects in to the Skytop III. It’s fun when shoes like this come out as there’s that urge to dissect every element and every panel, so far we’ve got some Hyperdunk 2009, AM1, Presto, Huarache, AJ V and AJ III references…

Geeking out aside, this is one great piece of footwear (Admittedly it’s taken a few close looks to actually appreciate the Skytop III). The lower profile, full length EVA throughout the forefoot and heel, removable heel pod and full suede upper combine for a healthy blend of science and art. Supra have managed to pull of an excellent piece of modern skate footwear with the Skytop III, with style and technology hanging perfectly in balance.
