Our good friend Throwing Snow has been busy in the studio with long-time collaborator (and incredible female vocalist) Py, the fruit of their labour being this new ‘Wallow’ EP on Super.
Consisting of four original works and two remixes from Ph0t0machine and Raffertie, this release is a good solid EP – one of the advantages of digital only releases I guess. If you’ve been keeping track on Throwing Snow’s work recently then you will have noticed him venturing down a slightly more dance floor friendly sound with huge pounding sub bass and stripped back percussive rhythms; something I’m a big fan of.
The title track ‘Wallow’ is a brilliantly atmospheric piece of dance music, putting side-chaining to good use to create a pulsing track that leaves plenty of room for Py’s unique vocals to sit on top of the mix. ‘The Shadows I Make’ take a more House feel with the vocal work being spread between Py and Russell Morgan, creating a nice mixture. For me, the highlight of the release has to be ‘Nettles And Gangs’ with it’s swelling organic drums and minimal nature, that and label boss Raffertie’s ambient rework of ‘Wallow’, which verges on being an acapella.
