Recap: New Era Introducing Showcase

Last Thursday, New Era launched their “Introducing Showcase” exhibition in London with one hell of a party.

Showcasing a selection of customised New Era 59FIFTY fitted hats, turning each into a one-off piece of art, the exhibition features work from artists from all over the world. Some of the hats were very much just a customised cap, but most of them were something all together completely different – a piece of art in their own rights. I love when New Era do this – it’s a fascinating project and something nice and different from the norm. Plus, they know how to throw a good party.

With a room full of glowing cubes and crazy sculptured hats, it was all very professional. Then there was downstairs, a stark contrast to the professionalism of the gallery, this area felt more like a dingy East London warehouse rave … it was awesome. Free drinks as per usual, and an incredible spread of seemingly never ending paella kept the party in full flow the whole night. Videos of select artists working on their New Era’s were being projected on the harsh industrial walls, whilst DJ Cable dropped tune after tune.

At the end of the night, the special guest DJ, none other than Oneman, stepped onto the decks and showed the crowd what’s what. Playing a selection of classic soul and R&B, followed by the usual bass heavy House music and UKG, it’s fair to say he smashed it, but that was expected. Time for a cheeky plug for our first ever mixtape by the man himself? I think so.

A great party in a great location (Shoreditch Underground). Congrats to the New Era family. The exhibition will now be jetting off around the world and stopping off at Berlin, Milan, Barcelona, Paris, Stockholm, Cape Town and Dubai.
