It’s been nearly 20 years since the original Huarache in its emerald/yellow make-up first saw the light of day. For late 2011 Nike have resurrected this tech-running and its basketball sibling back and added a twist with the addition of the Nike Free outsole unit.
Nike‘s obsession with mixing past and future seems to of mostly payed off. Favourites such as the AM 87, 90 have seen modern day makeovers with interesting results and this Huarache mash-up will no doubt cause and provoke debate among footwear obsessed folk. There’s two versions available here, with the original Huarache and Huarache Flight colours back in full. The Free outsole seems to flow better with the bulkier Flight silhouette, but the appliance of the Free technology on the Huarache has aesthetic elements similar to he Free Run+ 2, which is definitely a good thing. The toe box looks a touch of place on top of that tapered Free outsole unit but hey, it’s an over analysis that can be overlooked.
All in all this is a solid past meets present mash-up from Nike, and it’s a pleasure to see those vibrant OG colours back in action. Lets hope that we see the original make-ups turn up sometime soon.
Available from End Clothing, Crooked Tongues, Footpatrol and all other good Nike stockists on Friday 11th November.
