Bristol’s Fifty Fifty have enlisted the help of one Rich T for their latest T-shirt release – a homage to De La Soul’s 1989 debut album ‘3 Feet High And Rising’ in the form of the legendary Black Bart.
The front-and-back-print design comes on white and heather grey T-shirts, with the store name on the front, in the same type as the De La album, with ‘High’ switched for ‘Hype’ in true Fifty Fifty fashion. On the back, Black Bart is kitted out in full De La get up, complete with flat top and boombox.
For those that don’t quite get the reference, Black Bart was a common 90’s transformation of the Simpsons character, found on bootleg T-shirts in markets and holiday gift shops across the world. Black Bart would usually take the form of a different pop culture icon… Michael Jordan, Bob Marley e.t.c. and was almost always crudely drawn – but that just added to the character. This article from the Mishka Bloglin explains it all in more detail. I have a bit of a fascination with the Black Bart phenomenon, and Fifty Fifty and Rich T have smacked this one. I will definitely be stocking up.
Both colours are available from Fifty Fifty now for £25.
