Out of dozens of specialist sneaker boutiques around the world, a handful of stores were hand-picked by Reebok to collaborate on the everlasting and ageless Workout for the 25th anniversary of the shoe. London’s Footpatrol is one of the lucky few.
Soho based Footpatrol are one of the 15 stores selected to put their spin on the quintessential Reebok silhouette (amongst other legendary stores like 24 Kilates, Atmos, Mita, Patta, and Solebox), and they did a mighty fine job in doing so. The shoe in essence works perfectly in its simplicity and lack of colouration – since it’s birth in 1987 it has been coveted as one of the plainest yet most popular trainers we see on the streets today. Footpatrol have transformed the Workout into into their own visual representation of London, drenching the upper in a heavy grey suede to resemble the sombre, concrete environment that engulfs the city, with the yellow Footpatrol logo on the tongue symbolizing the glory of our capital in the sun. My favorite aspect of the Workout is the gum sole, contrasting nicely with the brushed suede fitting with the store’s own outlook of ‘taking the rough with the smooth’.
It’s great to see our own rubbing shoulders with the world’s big dons and it seems that 2012 is fast becoming Footpatrol’s year. All of the fifteen anniversary styles, including this one, are available from Footpatrol now, for £80 while stocks last.
