Uniform Experiment Spring/Summer 2012

Uniform Experiment isn’t a brand I know much about, but I’m largely impressed their Spring/Summer ’12 offering of shirts, outerwear, tees, and accessories. Named for it’s experimental nature, UE is the work of SOPHNET., produced in conjunction with the legend that is Hiroshi Fujiwara of Fragment Design.

UE has had some increased exposure in the UK recently through their Carhartt collaboration, but outside of that, the product is pretty hard to come by. Their collections pay specific attention to colour, material, and graphic themes. The three button ups were the first to grab my attention, for obvious reasons – two allover print shirts and a simple embroidered oxford, all of which statement makers in their own right, and all featuring the brands key logo embroidered on the side at the hem. The other stand out pieces are the clean two-tone take on the classic mountain parka, and the Hooded Trench Coat – a teched out twist on the menswear staple, complete with Fragment’s signature contrasting coloured vertical zip pocket.

The collection also includes a couple of simple white tees with contrasting blue collars, a ribbed silk tie, some minimally branded black sunglasses, hiking-style socks, and three nylon watch straps. I really like that it’s possible to make almost an entire outfit from this small collection – a different approach to what we’re used to seeing. Check out a few close-ups below, and if you wish to make a purchase, the Uniform Experiment is available exclusively at End Clothing in the UK.
