Today, the buzz online has certainly been all about the new collaboration between Japan’s COMME des GARÇONS, and New York’s finest, Supreme, as part of the opening celebrations for the new Dover Street Market in Ginza. Supreme and CDG’s SHIRT sub-label unite for a capsule collection of button-up shirts, tees, pullover hoods, and camp caps, while also working together on two Vans shoes.
Stripes and polka dots play a big part in the small collection, borrowing the aesthetic from some of CDG SHIRT’s more tailored pieces and applying them to some Supreme staples. The shirts are the first thing to catch my eyes – three striped dress shirts, with a contrasting branded strip running along the inseam of each arm, branded simply on the front with the red box logo flag label on the chest pocket. The same striped shirting fabric is also featured on three ‘patchwork’ style 5 panel camp caps, and again on the Vans Authentic and Sk8 Hi. The second part of the collection utilises an allover, polka dot print on white, heather grey and black tees and heather grey, navy, and black pullover hoods.
The 5 panels, tees, and hoods all feature a mirrored box logo, setting the collection apart from the main Supreme line quite nicely with a simple flip. For me, the ‘red’ shirt, along with the heather grey tee and navy pullover are the highlights, and one of the three will almost certainly be coming home with me. The collection blends the work of both brands in a way that should ultimately appeal to fans of either. The apparel and caps will be available from Supreme London as of March 16th, with the two Vans models following in mid-June.
