Barcelona’s premier sneaker boutique 24 Kilates turn their hand to the Gel Saga for their latest collaborative release with asics.
This is the first time we’ve seen the store work with asics since 2010’s salmon Gel Lyte Speeds, following more recent projects with Reebok, New Balance, and Ellesse.
The regal looking Gel Saga incorporates forest green and red suede panels, surrounding a black nylon base, with green and gold leather forming the asics insignia. Gold-tipped black laces, a classic white midsole, and red tongue branding finish off the piece, which for me, although I loved the Lyte Speed, trumps the store’s last work with asics in a big way. The design is inspired by Seville’s April Fair (or Feria de Abril) – simple, dark colours make this a very wearable shoe, but the plush suede and gold embellishments let you know that it’s definitely something special.
After a long hiatus, the Gel Saga has had a lot of love this year, with Patta and Ronnie Fieg models already releasing alongside a handful of general releases, and 24 Kilates continue to show what can be done with the this great silhouette. The shoe will be available in very limited numbers from select stores, including End Clothing, on Saturday May 5th.
