With their exciting collaboration dropping this week, Umbro and Palace launch this promotional video, once again with a very strong 90’s aesthetic.
Similar to Palace’s skate film Tres Trill, this promo has been shot on VHS. It seems like Palace have a love affair with the 90’s, and not in a way where they subtly reference it in trends or styles, but attempt to fully recreate it through VHS, smoking in pubs, Burberry prints and vinyl. I for one am a fan and share their love of the estranged era and all it’s quirks.
The video itself features a bunch of the Palace family all getting pissed up in a pub, watching the 1990 England game that the team kit has been re-issued (unofficially) from. Those with a keen eye will notice that Joy Orbison doesn’t only feature on the soundtrack, but also on the turntables in the pub. A pretty entertaining twist to the video. The video’s director Ewen Spencer has nailed this one. It may as well be some missing footage from Human Traffic.
Head over to Dazed Digital where you can read a short interview with Palace head honcho Lev Tanju about the video and the collaboration as a whole. Make sure you check out the video below. The collection is available at Slam City Skates, The Hideout and Present.
