Introducing: Ashdown Workshop

New brand Ashdown Workshop are a company that I’ve been waiting to come about for years. A decent British leather goods company, producing clean, minimal looking products by hand, using only UK sourced materials.

Ashdown Workshop are a father and son outfit and are located in Sussex, England. The main leatherworker started out in saddlery in the 1970’s, making saddles of the highest standard and quality, even for the royal family. They work exclusively with original antique leather tools, which is a real nice touch. With years of the leather trade under their belt, it allows them to produce products with no use of any kind of machines whatsoever, with all products being hand-cut and hand-stitched.

They mainly use a premium veg-tanned leather sourced from the UK. The leathers will patina nicely and darken in colour, with all pieces uniquely ageing throughout their life. They also produce a small range of non-leather accessories, which adhere to the key qualities of handmade and UK sourced. I hear that their collection of Ipad cases, wallets, key rings and coin purses will be growing, so keep an eye on these.

My favourite piece is the iPad case – it’s clean and simple, with enough detailing to make it interesting. All the pieces are branded with their seal and as you can see the tanning is beautiful to begin with, so imagine it with age.

Their online store launched today, with products at fair prices and a brilliantly shot video going through the belt making process (shown below). Go check it out and if you like what you see, support the new brand.
