Nike dig out the Air Epic for their latest classic silhouette to receive the vintage treatment.
I’m over the moon to see the Epic on store shelves again, as it’s one of our favourite runners here at TDS. As for the vintage treatment, I’m still not sold, and I’m starting to wonder how many times Nike have to be told it’s unnecessary before they stop smearing the outsoles in what looks like piss. Hopefully this little phase will soon stop and we can return to a world of crisp white outsoles.
As for the colourways available in this Quick Strike drop, we see two classic late 80’s running themes in an all Grey and a Blue / Grey colourway. The Epic is a great silhouette, and it comes to life when put in a more tonal colourway, as you can see here in the all Grey makeup. A more subtle use of colour allows for the classic details of the Epic to shine through; the perforated suede on the heel, the hits of reflective material at the base of the lacing and the mixture of materials. As for the Obsidian Blue / Medium Grey colourway, this reminds me of the classic Blue / Silver colour-ups that Nike used to bang out so well, and will always go down well with me on a runner.
I can’t fault these, other than the staining of the outsole, but we can hope that the re-introduction of the Epic in this vintage style will open up the door for the silhouette to make a much deserved return with untainted materials.
As for now, get a pair of these limited Quick Strike vintage versions from Oi Polloi for £75. Be quick, as they are already selling out in certain sizes.
