Bape x Undefeated Summer 2012 Collection

When initial branding first appeared, there was a lot of hype around the forthcoming Summer collaboration between A Bathing Ape and Undefeated. What emerged was a two part collection including flips on UNDFTD logos in Bape camo, and numerous surf-styled T-shirt graphics, alongside two colours in a Hawaiian allover print on bucket hats, short-sleeved shirts, shorts, tote bags and skate decks.

The logo flips are as expected, but the other T-shirts work well with the Hawaiian prints incorporating beach scenes and surf boards with both brands’ logos, in a similar style to classic Hang Ten tees from the 60’s and 70’s. The Hawaiian print is a repeating pattern of a tropical island, with Undefeated’s five strike logo etched in the sand, and the Bathing Ape as the sun. The blue is great, though I’m not sure I’d be brave enough to rock it as a full outfit.

The lookbook features Lucas of Odd Future fame and is shot by Curtis Buchanan. Check it out here and if you want to have first pick of the new collection, you’ll want to be at the Bape Store London at 11am next Saturday June 30th.

Tees are nice, the shorts/buttonup all over pattern combo I just can’t see any self-respecting person wearing.

If you are going to pay premium for some “cool” brand collaboration be shure the artwork is at least original. The drawing in the white t-shirt picture, before last one, a Shaka (hang loose sign) is directly copy pasted from the wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sign_language_Y.svg
