asics have given two of their favourite retro models (Gel Lyte III & Gel Saga) an infrared makeup to celebrate their early ’90s running shoes.
The Gel Lyte III has had a damn good few years, mainly down to the one man hype machine that is Ronnie Fieg and his magic touch. Personally, we’re ready for it to step aside and let it’s cheaper Saga options from the same era take to the podium. Don’t be put off by the crushed appearance of the Gel Saga here, unfortunately the images don’t do the beautiful silhouette justice. More stream lined than it’s Lyte brother, the Saga has aged to become a top tier vintage runner.
This double pack sees some well placed splashes of infrared, a colour synonymous with early ’90s running shoes, mainly thanks to the infrared Nike Air Max 90. The Saga wins in regards to colourway thanks to it’s extra use of black. If only the Gel Lyte III had been given a black toebox and side panelling as well. Iconic asics branding resides on the side of the shoe in infrared, popping hard against the black suede on both models.
Both are available now from Crooked Tongues.
