TDS Mix 026: Moxie

The-Dail-Street-Mixtape-026-Moxie

Today is a very special day, as we welcome our first female DJ to our mixtape series, and who better to be the first than the leading lady Moxie.

Moxie’s DJ career seems to have blossomed even further of late and it’s great to see. She has to be one of the most hands on, active people in the London scene. Co-running Benji B’s infamous Deviation night, holding down one of the lead shows on NTS Radio and playing all over the place, it’s fair to say that Moxie is a busy lady. Her vastly wide musical taste and expansive knowledge makes for one of the most interesting radio shows and some of the best live sets around at the moment, so it’s with great pleasure that we welcome her to our mixtape series.

This mix is yet another sterling piece of work from this London talent. An effortlessly smooth blend of tunes that vary from House to Techno to UKG and in between. Creativity remains in the details, where it operates best with DJing, be it subtle EQ tweaks at the right times or the use of delay to craft a custom intro from an Al Green classic. The intriguing thing is that this mix has been crafted with running in mind. You’ll have to test it out and let us know how it functions as a running soundtrack.

Enjoy the mix and make sure you go and see Moxie live at the next opportunity you have.

What approach have you taken for this mix?
I’ve been running a lot recently so I think that’s really inspired my selection and so I wanted to focus on more upbeat tempos such as Broken Beat, House & Techno.

Which track or mix is your personal favourite?
I have so many but I think it would have to be a toss up between the Mala ‘Calle F’ track and the Mr. G ‘Daily Prayer’ track as both have been on constant repeat, so had to make sure to include them in this mix.

What did you do this mix on?
On my turntables, half via serato and the other half with vinyl.

Is style/fashion important to you?
It is, but it doesn’t dictate my life, as long as i’m comfortable that’s all that matters.

What brand(s) are you particularly feeling at the moment?
Everything that Opening Ceremony is pushing, including their own line with Chloe Sevigny I am totally in love with. Also really feeling the new Nike FlyKnit sneaker series, need to get my hands on a pair of those!

What have you got coming up soon?
Gigging for festivals, doing some projects with NTS Radio and planning some pretty big parties for our 5th year of Deviation including the 5th Birthday in October and including a mini tour. Also i’m going to be working on the design for some of the merch so keep an eye out for that!

It’s an alright mix. I think if this was a guy who mixed this people would say it’s alright rather than ‘sterling’.

what’s the first tune? can’t find it

  • Synamatix

It’s a custom edit of a cover of Love and Happiness (originally by Al Green) that Moxie made for this mix.
