Asics partner up with Italy’s Slam Jam for this acid fluro rendition of their ever popular Gel Lyte III.
Founded in 1989, Slam Jam is at the heart of Italian streetwear culture, taking the role of a steetwear store as seriously as you can. Here we see the store craft a beautiful Gel Lyte III that utilises some truly hard to ignore colours and gets away with it. Consisting mainly of a bright lemon yellow and complimented by an equally vibrant lime green, this is nothing short of a citrus shoe. The combination of super soft luxury leathers and nylon of the upper is kept in line with a simple, grey outsole that calms the project down. It refuses to be boring however, showcasing silver speckle. Scotchguard hits on the toebox and a generous four sets of laces finish off the design nicely.
Somehow, as bright as they are, these aren’t garish. They are, however, extremely european in their neon nature. Maybe it’s the use of materials that calms the overall aesthetic, either way it’s a job very well done and one that will undoubtedly reach the hall of fame of Gel Lyte III’s alongside the numerous ultra-hype Ronnie Fieg’s and the colour-fade beauty that Slam Jam created back in 2010 (one of the best ever).
