asics sure know how to provide some excellent old and new colourways. The Gel Lyte III has been subject to some seriously amazing makeovers the last few years and has been centre stage amongst asics’ array of ’90s runner reissues. Recently though the Gel Saga has started to gain similar recognition through a few necessary and timely retro releases, working alongside heavyweight collaboration action with Patta and 24 Kilates. Here we take a look at the latest black/spearmint colour option.
These look like the efforts of a collaborative project but it in reality it’s just the asics design team’s refined taste providing the right platform for another highly credible release. The colour application of black, spearmint and hits of grey work perfectly together for a more subtle look which will still turn heads. Although the black dominates, the spearmint accents give the shoe that ’90s asics runner twist and keeps the aesthetic from looking too mundane. As usual the upper is constructed of fine mesh and suede, with asics and Gel Saga branding placed on the heel, outsole and tongue – a design characteristic of ’90s runners we like to see.
