Hypebeast x Puma ‘Dim Sum Project’

Puma and Hypebeast have teamed up to present the ‘Dim Sum Pack’ with two takes on the classic Puma Blaze of Glory sneaker.

The Blaze of Glory is a classic silhouette and maybe a slightly unsung hero in Puma’s back catalogue, this pack however should really see the runner fall into the spotlight as blog heavyweights Hypebeast select the shoe for their most recent collaboration. Hypebeast base their headquarters in Hong Kong, so it was only fitting that with this collaborative effort, the inspiration was drawn from something that really represents the city’s culture – the food and cuisine that is Dim Sum.

The Blaze of Glory LTWT chooses to reflect the ‘Har Gao’ Shrimp dumpling. The upper panels have been wrapped in a sheer material that covers a subtle pinky camo effect, mimicking the wrapped shrimp of the Har Gao. The midsole here is the more flexible and lightweight FAAS 250 midsole which adds to the more delicate nature that this sneaker holds over its partner.

The Blaze of Glory OG’s features reference the ‘Siu Mai’ steamed pork dumpling. Sitting upon a white cushioned cell midsole, use of lux leather and suede uppers in a tonal yellow represent the Siu Mai yellow wrapping. As a more basic dumpling, this simplicity runs into the minimal but bold and effective design of this sneaker.

The way these two sneakers harmonise is somewhat successful, in true Ying and Yang style. The more elegant, contemporary Har Gao LTWT stands out with it’s busier shrimp camo, whereas the Siu Mai OG sits a more robust model with more minimalism in colours. To top things off, each pair of sneakers will come with a faux bamboo steam basket dustbag and a pair of Hypebeast and Puma branded chopsticks.

The Puma x Hypebeast Dim Sum Pack drops this Friday May 17th at End, Footpatrol and Hanon in the UK.
