This Sunday, May 5th, East London festival Streetfest returns to its regular May bank holiday slot for a day of music, live art, and sport. Billed as the UK’s number 1 ‘urban culture festival’, Streetfest manages to squeeze a tonne of activities into 3 East London warehouses and the surrounding streets.
Headlining the musical element this year is East coast hip hop artist and producer Oddisee alongside London’s own Dot Rotten and Livin’ Proof DJs. The venue also hosts a collective of international street artists who will be working throughout the day, Secret Walls’ live art battles and art workshops from Alternative London. On top of that, the event’s focus on urban sports brings in skateboard competitions, Red Bull Mini-Ramp jams and a dedicated dance stage alongside a bunch of other activities across the day. The Streetfest space will also house the TTC Market – a combination of traders and designers selling clothing, accessories and food.
Now in its fifth year, Streetfest seeks to combine all elements of street culture into one niche festival, and this year they’ve put together a pretty impressive package. We’ve attended the event a couple of times, first in 2009 and then again in 2010, and both were definitely days to remember.
