It’s always interesting to see the results when two high profile brands collaborate, and with their latest effort Supra and G-Shock have put a lot of work into producing a highly detailed two-piece collaboration, centered appropriately around ‘time’.
The collaboration includes the ‘lite’ version of Supra’s Vaider high top, which features a lightweight, Lunarlon-styled Suprafoam sole in place of the traditional vulc. The shoe resembles Supra’s ‘Red Carpet Pack’ release from 2010, with red panels on the outsole contrasting against a completely black upper of the brand’s TUF abrasion resistant fabric. The Vaider features red Supra text on the heels and a watch-styled ‘It’s About Time’ tongue label, with the time set to ’20:13′ and both brand names attached.
The collaboration, like the recently released Bearbrick designed model, is another part of G-Shock’s 30th anniversary celebrations, with the watch brand inviting Supra to bring their own luxury flair to the project. The timepiece chosen this time is the new GA-200, and it marks the first time that the model has been collaborated on. The black and red colour scheme continues with a matte black bezel, black face and tonal branding, accented by red hands. The traditional resin band has been replaced with milatary-grade Cordura which, like the Vaider, features a red underside, and again the 20:13 ‘It’s About Time’ clock appears, this time engraved on the back of the case.
I will always have a soft spot for Supra, growing up a big Muska fan happy to admit that there are a few pairs of ’07/’08 Skytops and Vaiders in my stack (I’m still fond of the teal/snake). ‘Though the more ostentatious releases are a bit much for me to consider wearing these days, Supra keep things interesting, regularly coming up with collaborations and special projects that give us plenty to talk about – the ‘Spring Breakers’ Donavyn and Lil Wayne’s new Spectre line being two other recent examples.
The video below summarises Supra’s theme on this one quite nicely, with an appearance from Supra’s own Stevie Williams. The Supra x G-Shock collaboration releases globally tomorrow, Saturday May 11th, at a limited number of retailers. The Supra Vaider will be available exclusively from Footasylum in the UK, in sizes 7-11, while the G-Shock GA-200 will be available through G-Shock and their East London store on Dray Walk.
