Recap: 2013 NBA Media Game London

The NBA and basketball has always had a following here in Europe and the sport has grown and gained more popularity over the last 15 years or so. NBA superstars over the last decade have shown why the game is so entertaining to watch and have captured fans’ attention with spectacular athletic abilities and revered signature shoe lines.

The introduction of annual NBA regular season games at the O2 Arena in London has allowed fans to gain access to basketball at a professional and world class level. Supporting NBA Europe’s cause this past weekend was the NBA‘s 3X tournament tour, which has already passed through London and is set to arrive in Manchester this coming weekend. Before the event officially got underway in London, we had the opportunity to showcase our basketball skills at the 2013 NBA Media Game.

It’s nice to step away from the computer screen once in a while and get the chance to shoot some hoops and have fun. Needless to say, we were pretty much done half way through the first quarter. Playing basketball with the sun beaming down is a far cry from sitting in the shade posting pictures of coffee’s and outfit posts on our Instragram accounts. Playing on a full NBA standard court is a tough challenge for those who aren’t prepared for it, but if the kids in London and throughout the country are being brought up on this standard then we are pretty sure there’s a positive future for basketball in the UK and across Europe. It was great to see Atlanta Hawks’ Al Horford make an appearance for the NBA 3X weekend, who was there to provide invaluable tips and perspectives on the game. Oklahoma’s Serge Ibaka will also be making an appearance at the Manchester event this weekend, which runs from 19 – 20 July.

Not only does the 3X tour provide the opportunity for those looking to develop their game, but it’s also another taster for things to come in the future as Al Horford’s Atlanta Hawks will be taking on the Brooklyn Nets for a regular season game at the O2 Arena on 16 January 2014. The Oklahoma Thunder will also be up against the 76ers for a pre-season game on 8 October, which will also be held at the 02 Arena. Stay tuned for more details on the games and more NBA related updates in the future.
