SPECTRE by Supra & Lil Wayne presents the Griffin 01

Round 2 of the collaborative SPECTRE project from Supra and Lil Wayne is here and buried among the hi top madness is this more wearable silhouette, the Griffin.

Lil Wayne is cool, but he’s also crazy. He’s kinda like the less classy Kanye. I mean he wore a pair of snowboard boots with swim shorts to sit front of house at a Lakers game. I’m all for creative style, but that’s just wrong. Parts of his SPECTRE project have also had the same no-limits mental attitude, such as the invites for the original launch including medical marijuana or the design of the more outrageous hi top the Chimera. Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much.

What’s really nice to see is this project starting to spread it’s wings and it’s appeal by adding some variation in the design process with this low top offering. Let me say right now that I am always biassed to a low top and always will be. The Griffin has much more of a traditional skate shoe vibe to it, but gets a bit of the USA glam thanks to the black/gold and white/black colourways. For me it’s all about the red pair. The more minimal approach to this shoe opens up the SPECTRE project to a new group of people and I hope as the project develops that Supra and Lil Wayne continue to go this way as well as the more out-there hi tops that the project is better known for.

Keep your eyes on top Supra stockists in the near future for this Fall 2013 release.
