With such a crazy response to Crepe City Sneaker Festival 7, we turned out to #8 to see what would happen after a large expansion and even more sneakers.
There doesn’t seem to be another sneaker event quite like Crepe City. I remember back when it was a small thing at Notting Hill Arts Club and now it’s grown into a mammoth sized occasion that takes priority in a lot of people’s calendars. #8 was no exception, moving location from Village Underground to The Truman Brewery, Crepe City listened to the cries for more space from the 4 hour queue at the last event and expanded this one. It wasn’t anywhere near as packed as the last event, but that’s just a sign of good venue selection from the CC family.
Of course, there were plenty of gems on show, alongside a plethora of very new releases including the size? Huarache that had dropped that morning. I’m still undecided if the Crepe City crowd is the UK sneaker scene or a whole different scene all together. To be completely honest, what’s left of the UK scene that I remember is a bunch of us rambling at events in the corner. This is definitely a very different beast to the high brow days of the Crooked Tongues BBQ and before that. This is a high-energy, must-have market that previous to the last few years you only heard about from the States.
Putting aside what you think about people getting Air Max 1 tattoos and stalls with full size breaks of limited LeBron X releases, it’s still a great day out for all sneaker fans and still plays host to some incredible grails. Every time I head to Crepe City I see a shoe I had no previous knowledge about. This year also saw the folks from SoleHeaven get involved, teaming up with sneaker legend Kish Kash to select the 10 best turnouts from both guys and girls. You can see them sneaker perving in a few of the pics below.
