size? take an intergalactic approach in bringing back the Air Max 93 from the Nike archives with two new colourways set to release exclusively through them this coming weekend.
The teaser video we posted last week hinted at what was to come, but today we got final confirmation that Nike most ambitious Air Max project will make an anticipated return. The Air Max 93 represents a nostalgia-filled highlight of the 25+ years of Air Max for many an enthusiast. The combination of the neoprene interior (seen in pieces like the Huarache) which gave the shoe a sock-like fit and Nikes new max volume air-sole which added a tremendous 270 degrees of visible air, created something with an entirely new look and feel. The shoe’s powerful stature and gaping air sole combine to make one of my favourite Air Max models and I am very happy to see its return.
size? have incorporated elements of the typically bright colourways and safari-print detailing we’ve seen them use on the recent Urban Safari models and Huarache releases once again. The first uses lime and royal blue elements as a nod to one of the original 93 colourways, combined on a predominantly dark grey and black upper for an altogether darker approach. The second of the two is my favourite though and features laser orange neoprene with a pink swoosh, heel branding and air bubble and the combination or mortar and dark brown elements giving a ‘Mowabb-type’ feel.
To introduce the Maximum Air project once again, size? produced a short video in which they actually sent the shoes into space (if what is seen is to be believed), giving the shoes the ‘maximum air’ possible in a fun teaster which only adds to my excitement.
The Nike Air Max 93 Dark Grey/Lime/ Royal and Mortar/Pink/Laser Orange will release exclusively through select size? stores and online (via direct links on their Facebook and Twitter pages) at 8am this Saturday September 28th. Check out a couple of shots below, along with the full version of the aforementioned video, and I also highly recommend visiting the size? blog for a detailed retrospective on the Air Max 93 and why it holds such an important place in the history of Air Max.
