In Support of The Campaign for Wool, Lyle & Scott have worked with Central Saint Martins to take the design of one winning student and produce an exclusive piece of knitwear currently available from their new flagship store.
Students were asked to consider a theme of ‘knitwear traditions of the British Isles’ and Lyle & Scott’s brand identity, with three designs taken through to prototype phase before the winner was selected. The winning design by Kate Annis is a bold realisation of the brief. Taking inspiration from tartan, the piece utilises a number of different coloured fibres in contrasting panels and is made from 100% lambswool. It manages to blend the traditional stylings mentioned with a much more contemporary feel for a refreshing take on the Lyle & Scott brand.
The Campaign for Wool was launched in 2010 to educate consumers on the benefits of the material and to encourage growth in the wool industry in the UK – you can learn more about it in the video above and get a detailed look at the production process. The ‘Wool School Winner’ design is available now from the Lyle & Scott online and from the brand’s flagship store on Carnaby Street.
