Nike Air Tech Challenge II ‘Hot Lava’

The Nike Air Tech Challenge II, the shoe endorsed by tennis legend Andre Agassi, makes its return this week in the original ‘Hot Lava’ colourway.

The ‘Tech Challenge’ name has been getting regular mentions since the first of the Yeezy II colourways released in 2012 (the sole of which comes straight from the shoe you see here) and when tennis legend Andre Agassi rejoined team Nike last year we hoped that his own shoes would follow.

The Tech Challenge II is an excellent shoe, oozing with Agassi’s 90’s steez, mullet and all. Its a marker of an excellent era in sportswear, a time when attitude was everything and Nike TV spots had much better soundtracks. A predominantly white leather upper with black and grey elements gets its pop from bubbling ‘lava’ panels around the midsole, matching the swoosh, lining and tongue label. The Huarache variant is already doing the rounds in a couple of colourways, but this is OG Tech Challenge II is the one for me, in a reproduction that is a very close rendition of the original.

If you’re looking for outfit suggestions, acid wash denim is the only way to go, that is unless we’re also about to see the return of some of Agassi’s signature Nike apparel, which I would fully back. The Nike Air Tech Challenge II ‘Hot Lava’ drops this Friday February 21st at select UK stockists including The Chimp Store, Crooked Tongues, size? and Urban Industry.
