Nike NOLA Gumbo League Collection

To coincide with the NBA’s 2014 All-Star game in New Orleans, Nike Basketball is paying tribute to the city’s eclectic culture and flavours with the NOLA Gumbo League Collection. The collection includes three shoes: The LeBron 11, KOBE 9 Elite and KD VI.

Known for it’s vibrant mix of music, cuisine and art, New Orleans is a great choice to inspire a shoe collection. The pack takes inspirations from the flavours and stories of New Orleans, known to some as the ‘Big Easy.’ Featuring a bold mix of modern innovation, juicy aesthetics and New Orleans traditions, each shoe has been specifically designed to represent a unique characteristic of the city.

The Lebron 11 here is a showcase of royalty and power, using the alligators found around the New Orleans area. Seen as a symbol of protection, the gator influences the graphic textures and colours all over the shoe. Nike like to implement glow in the dark features and here it works perfectly. Jazz music seems like the perfect representation of Kobe’s game and the Kobe 9 Elite is a nod to the birthplace of Jazz and it’s masters. Paying homage to the genre, there are hits of brass throughout the upper and more glow in the dark vibrancy on the outsole. Finally, celebrating the varied skill set of Kevin Durant’s game and the versatility of New Orleans, the KD VI utilises artistic patterns on the upper which represent Durant’s expressive style of play.

The NOLA Gumbo League Collection will be available on 14 February at
