Here’s another edition of Music Monday for the fifth time this month. This week’s selection features Bonobo, Danny Brown, Freddie Gibbs, Glassjaw and GZA.
01. Dom Kennedy – Dominic
“Dom Kennedy has been on top form for a very long time now. This proves why.” – Grizzle
02. Bonobo – Silver
“Just because this is a tune and everyone should play it at least once a week. For me I think of skating, if I had a part in a skate video this would be my track.” – Grizzle
03. Townes Van Zandt- St. John The Gambler
“I’m not really one for country stuff but I got into Townes Van Zandt a good few years ago when i was delving into the lesser mainstream country music that wasn’t Johnny Cash. Some of this stuff is so dark and actually features in a recent episode of True Detective (which urged me to draw for this choice).” – Luke
04. Freddie Gibbs- High ft. Danny Brown
“Felt like I had to choose something from Piñata, the new album from Freddie and Madlib simply because it is so good. I can’t really decide my favourite yet but this one features Danny Brown which automatically makes it fun.” – Luke
05. Alicia Keys- Feeling U, Feeling Me (interlude)
“This interlude from Alicia spawned the amazing “Alicia” by Mala. Lets give a little moment for the original. I really want the weather to keep getting better and listen to this long version on a overly hot day.” – Luke
06. GZA – Living In The World Today Ft. Method Man
“Hip-hop isn’t something I usually go for on a regular basis, but I have a select few albums I go for when needed. GZA’s Liquid Swords is one of those albums and Living In The World is one of my favourite songs. After watching that section on Cherry with Glaciers Of Ice pounding in the background, it just got me in the right frame of mind for hip-hop.” – Chris
07. My Bloody Valentine – Sometimes
“I go from GZA to shoegaze… It’s another film inspired choice here. After re-watching Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation this past week, I forgot how good the soundtrack was with select cuts from MBV’s album Loveless.” – Chris
08. Youthmovies – The Naughtiest Girl Is A Monitor
“Been a long while since I last listened to Youthmovies. Such a great band.” – Alex
09. glassjaw – Siberian Kiss
“Grew up listening to Glassjaw and more specifically the album Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Silence. This is one of my favourite tracks off the album.” – Alex
