London’s latest skate shop has opened it’s doors in Stoke Newington, East London – the aptly named Toms Skate Shop. We take a look inside.
Set up and manned by Tom, the store is literally what it says it is, Tom’s skate shop. Having only just opened it’s doors, this shop is still in the process of finding itself both in regards to it’s customer base and it’s stock, but it’s made a very strong start. With brands such as Thrasher, Fourstar, Lakai, Etnies, Flip, Magenta, Isle, Girl and Anti-Hero they have opened shop with some of skatings best brands behind them. In the coming weeks expect to see Emerica and Altamont also come onboard as Toms picks up momentum.
The shop build is light and spacious, perfect for the newly rediscovered sunshine. A full glass front with wide double doors make this a great spot to jam during the sunny months ahead. Toms promises more than just skate merchandise however, with downstairs becoming an art gallery and the store also offering “yoga for skaters” every Thursday, hosted by Tammy’s Yoga.
Currently, this store is keeping things classical and only selling from their bricks and mortar store. Something that is less common these days and should be cherished, although we are told that they will be going online in the near future. In the mean time, you can like them on Facebook. If you’re in the Stoke Newington area be sure to swing by, show some support and say hello to Tom. As you can tell from the quote below, he clearly deserves the support as that’s what he has built the store to do – to support the growing local skate scene:
“Being a local skater in Stoke Newington for the past 5+ years I have seen the scene grow a lot, especially with the redevelopment of Clissold Park including a new skatepark. With limited selection of shops selling skateboards and skateboard fashioned clothing I decided to open a shop myself to help build the local skate scene and support the local skate community. Through the shop I hope to keep building the community in the area and will be running a variety of clubs and events to promote skating in the area.”
