Dropping tomorrow, the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’86 (White/Gym Red) is undoubtedly going to go down well with Jordan fans old and new.
Taking very clear influence from the Air Jordan 2 released in 1986 (hence the name), the Air Jordan 1 Retro ’86 is almost a hybrid, but I’m not sure it goes far enough away from the Air Jordan 1 to be called that. A mashup, no doubt. Taking the TPU heel counter and Wings logo on the tongue, AJ1 the Retro ’86 actually steals a few physical elements from it’s older sibling, making this an interesting model for the Jordan fans that will undoubtedly have some people in love and others in rage. Personally, I think the additions work and make for an intriguingly subtle mashup sneaker.
The most obvious inspiration comes in the colourway, taking direct reference from one of the most iconic colourways ever to grace the AJ2. Not only is the White/Red/Black colourway one of the most striking for this model, it’s also one of the most re-issued, finding itself back on the shelves in 1994, 2004 and 2010. The colourway definitely works for the Air Jordan 1 as well, as you can see here.
The Air Jordan 1 Retro ’86 (White/Gym Red) lands tomorrow (June 7th) at 8:00 am on Nike.com – don’t sleep!
