We take an exclusive first look at the Fall/Winter 2014 lookbook for Le Coq Sportif’s ’80s inspired Legacy Collection.
Le Coq Sportif have got a rich sporting heritage with their iconic logo looking truly at home on retro sportswear of all kinds (especially shell suits… one day!). Here we see Le Coq Sportif play to their vintage strengths with a late ’80s / early ’90s inspired fleece sportswear collection featuring hoodies, sweaters, t-shirts and sweatpants as well as 3 colourways of their beloved Eclat 85. Throughout the collection is a running colour theme of purple and blue on greys and off-whites with a focus on large branding and geometric shapes. As well as the more than comfortable clothing, there are a few accessories to round off the collection in the form of a snapback cap and a duffle bag.
The lookbook itself plays to the sporting themes behind the collection, while trying to maintain a “lifestyle” or city feel. There’s a slightly odd mixture of studio and location shots and personally I think the shots that utilise the strong geometric lines of an outdoor basketball court are by far the strongest, especially when teamed with ’80s style aerobics stretches. With the strength of these images outshining some of the more generic “models in the park” images, I personally think the lookbook would have benefited from a more one dimensional story / location.
The Legacy Collection is available now from the Le Coq Sportif London flagship store and select retailers.
Also, be sure to join the Le Coq Sportif and SLOCAL families as they celebrate the launch of the collection at the Le Coq Sportif London flagship store tomorrow evening 6:30–11:00pm with Da$H, Blackfoot Phoenix, JD Reid, and Hannah Faith supplying the music.
