He’s back, the Godfather of Grime. Wiley makes his return with this music video for “On A Level” directed and styled by Skepta.
It’s good to see Wiley back and making Grime rather than some sort of chart-aimed House-Pop number. Unfortunately, he got Skepta to direct and style the video. Skepta should stick to music because the styling is far beyond awkward trend-biting and the video is a little awkward in general as well. To sum it up, Wiley gets beckoned out of his house by Giggs before rapping on the porch of his supposed mansion, then his balcony, then his porch again, then he awkwardly says goodbye to his pals before getting in a car and leaving them all on his doorstep. He also walks down his stairs briefly at one point.
Regardless of Skepta’s involvement in the video, the track is good. Let’s hope this is the return of the Wiley we all love and another step closer to his bronze stature in Bow (sign the petition if you haven’t already).
