Back in September 2013 adidas partnered with long term 3-stripes fan Gary Aspden to curate the Spezial exhibition in London, which showcased a huge array of adidas’ archive designs. After the success of that event Aspden has continued to collaborate with the German brand, resulting in this nostalgic but contemporary collection. Using the same title as the exhibition, this new ‘Spezial’ collection represents not only Aspden’s obsession with adidas’ output, but also those who have been lifelong devotees to the brand.
The concept begins with Aspden’s memories of growing up in North West England. For many in that region adidas shoes were a staple fashion item, adapted within youth culture across generations. This ‘SPEZIAL’ collection celebrates the brand’s rich history and cultural influence, with Aspden designing a range that focuses on those two important points – highlighting specific adidas leisurewear and shoe designs. The images here by END., bring out the project’s essence by putting the products into context with the backdrop of North Shields FC’s grounds. We can see a variety of archive silhouettes which have been customised by blending original specs, special editions and various details from OG models and personal collections of the most avid adidas fanatics.
The collection launches at END. on 25 October.
