Arto Saari always had a unique style from day one. Here we see him styled by Nicolas Klam in luxury fashion items and shot by Beau Grealy for MR PORTER.
The idea of someone skateboarding in a pair of Quoddy leather boat shoes or Lanvin suede sneakers, both around the £300 mark, is almost painful. It’s the same mentality as wearing your prize kicks, but to an extreme. I’m still working out wether I think it’s a stupid waste or unbelievably cool. Probably both. Anyway, one thing that is easy to establish is that Arto looks damn good in this shoot. Simple, understated style and he does it well.
It’s interesting to see MR PORTER looking to people like Arto Saari, a well recognised name in skateboarding, for their style shoots at the moment. Along with other featured people, it’s clear that Mr Porter wants to appeal to those less traditionally fashion obsessed as well as their more predictable customer. What’s also interesting is that it doesn’t look out of place; Arto looks more than comfortable in the likes of Rag & Bone, Folk, J.Crew, Maison Martin Margiela and John Smedley.
