Adidas Consortium have spruced up 3 classic running shoes in bright new colour-ways ready for the summer; the ZXZ, Tokio Low and ZX 450.
All 3 pairs of kicks have a very similar silhouette, whilst all holding their own in an original way. The colour-ways and use of different materials on each shoe gives each pair a strong individual character. These shoes are not for the weak-hearted … it takes serious skill to pull off shoes this bright!
For me, it’s all about the ZXZ’s. Slightly more understated than the Tokio Low and ZX 450, this shoe uses nylon, premium leather and premium suede throughout. Having the front end of the shoe kitted out in suede and the back end nylon puts a really interesting spin on this classic runner. As per usual, the mesh on the outsole kills it.
The Tokio Low is a very minimal running shoe, and it’s nice to see Adidas keep it that way. Mainly block Purple, the shoe is brought to life with neon Yellow trims and Green detailing – a pretty brave choice of colours. The contrast plastic lace loops on this classic are a big look.
The ZX 450 is the most eye catching shoe in the collection, mainly because it’s bright Red, and that’s a hard colour to pull off! Black & Royal Blue trims help calm down the Red though. The mesh on leather side panel and neon Yellow sole top this shoe off, but personally I can’t get over the bright Red. I think Adidas could have done better with this one.
