This weekend will see the release of one of the most anticipated skateboarding releases in a long time, the first Nike SB signature model from pro skater Eric Koston, and I will happily say that I get exactly what all the fuss is about. The Eric Koston 1 is the first Nike SB shoe to feature Lunar technology, and looks set to be a huge step forward for SB, and skateboarding as a whole.
I’ve been a fan of Koston for as long as I can remember (he was my always my first choice on THPS), and in the last year or two, I’ve become a pretty big SB fan, so I’ve been waiting for this ever sine news of their partnership first emerged. The Koston 1 is about as clean as it gets, constructed from one-piece TPU reinforced suede upper, a stitchless feel which is mirrored by the lining. The real glory is the removable Lunarlon sockliner, which provides just the right amount of cushioning while allowing for better board feel, and making the shoe incredibly light. The Koston 1 also borrows from Nike’s running history it’s neoprene collar, for a supportive and comfortable fit. The other big story here is the lo ride construction, which is a big change for the vulc-saturated market. The new design creates vulc like control with a cup sole construction, making it the perfect blend of the two.
I’m really looking forward to getting out there and testing these for myself, my only problem is choosing which of the colourways to go for. The Nike SB Koston 1 will be available in Black/Dark grey, Sport Red/Tourmaline, and Light Concord/Metallic Gold, from this Saturday (June 4th). Find it at your local Nike SB stockist, including Slam City Skates, where it’s available to pre-order now.
