adidas Originals x Spezial – Sole Searching in South America

Last week we delved into the workings behind, and the footwear offerings, from the forthcoming adidas Originals x Spezial collection. Now we can turn our focus to the cultural and emotional impact that adidas has had on the lives of its avid fans and collectors. Before we all knew about the Spezial exhibition last year and this collection, Gary Aspden was tipped off about a store in Buenos Aires stacked to the ceiling with original adidas products from tracksuits to footwear. Inviting a select few individuals, including Ian Brown, Robert Brooks and Mike Chetcuti, Aspden organised a trip to the store with research purposes and pure enthusiasm for the product in mind.

Documentation along the way by Neil Bedford and filmmaker Greg Bond has allowed us to view this unique experience. The video above depicts the enthusiasm for collecting adidas products and also tells the story of the store owner, Carlos Ruiz, and the emotional ties he has with his collection. The adidas Originals x Special collection will be releasing tomorrow 25 October at the adidas Originals flagship store in London, oki-ni, Oi Polloi, END., SNS, Foot Patrol, Hanon and Wellgosh.
